BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- A cold front will bring snowstorms to northwest and southwest China on Saturday and Sunday, said China's national observatory.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Saturday issued a blue alert for snowstorms to hit parts of Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia and Tibet Autonomous Region.

Cold air will also affect central and east China, bringing gales and lowering temperatures by four to six degrees Celsius from Saturday to Tuesday, according to the NMC.

It forecast rain and snow for some regions south of the Yangtze River from Saturday night to Monday.

China has a four-color warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
