ALGIERS, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The world's third largest under-construction mosque in Algeria has reached remarkable progress, as the Chinese CSEC firm and Algerian authorities celebrated the end of concrete works at the 265 meter high minaret.
This event was celebrated by the presence of Algerian Housing Minister, Abdelmadjid Teboune, and Governor of Algiers, Abdelkader Zoukh, in addition to Chinese Ambassador to Algiers, Yang Guangyu.
Both Algerian and Chinese officials have filled the last concrete bucket which was split in the top of the minaret to mark the end of concrete works in this monument.
For now, CSCEC is due to continue concrete works in the rest of the project, before tackling the scrupulous finishing stage, which includes ancillary networks, the placement of floor tiles, marble, glass, and artistic decoration works.
In this regard, Housing Minister Abdelmadjid Teboune told reporters that this monument highlights the good relations between Beijing and Algiers, saying "We would like to say big thank you to our friendly China, this great nation, for this great project, which is going to mark history, as being the third biggest mosque in the world after the two monuments of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia."
Once delivered in Dec. 2017, the mosque will take a space of about 400,000 square meters, which will make it the third biggest mosque in the world. Enditem
