5.8-magnitude earthquake strikes Myanmar's Yangon

YANGON, March 13 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude struck Myanmar's Yangon region Monday night, according to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department.

The earthquake struck at 8:49 p.m. local time (1419 GMT). The epicenter was 35.4 km northwest of Yangon and 8.04 km southwest of Taik Kyi township, outskirt of Yangon region.

The quake was felt in some townships including Insein, Hlaingtharyar, South Dagon, Bahan and in Maubin township of Ayeyawaddy region.

Some pagodas in Taik Kyi were affected by the quake. Other immediate casualties are not yet available so far.

There were reports of four after shocks.
