ADDIS ABABA, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The Following are news highlights in Ethiopia's major media outlets on Tuesday.

-- A total of 550 farmers and semi-pastoralists including 60 women who managed to transform themselves into agricultural investors by creating asset were awarded.

-- At least 65 people were killed in a garbage dump landslide that happened last Saturday in Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa city mayor Diriba Kuma said the death of 65 people is confirmed so far and the death toll may rise. Rescue operation is still going on in the area. (Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation/EBC)

-- Ethiopia bids farewell to outgoing African Union Commission Chairperson. Ethiopia's Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu hosted a reception in honor of the outgoing Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on Monday at Hilton Addis.

The event was attended by the newly elected and incoming AUC Chairperson Mr Moussa Faki Mahamat; his Deputy and Ambassadors, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). (Fana Broadcasting Corporate/FBC)

-- The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) on Monday signed agreements with two indigenous and four foreign firms for the execution of 7 road projects at a cost of more than 7.9 billion birr.

ERA signed the agreements with local firms-Gemshu Beyene General Contractor and Sunshine Construction as well as Chinese companies-China Wu Yi International, China Railway No. 3 Engineering, China Communications Construction Company and CGC Overseas Construction. (Fana Broadcasting Corporate/FBC)

-- Some 9 of the 21 national opposition parties, which reportedly agreed to meet Monday to discuss about their strategy to the political dialogue underway with the ruling party, have failed to show up.

The parties that met were also unable to make progress as they failed to even start the meeting because of disagreements. (Ethiopian News Agency/ENA) Enditem
