BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Hosts China snapped a three-game losing streak at the World Women's Curling Championships 2017 here on Monday, grabbing the first victory of the tournament after edging South Korea 7-6 in a rematch of the final at Asian Winter Games.
South Korea could have sealed the win in the tenth end but their first player Kim Yeong-Mi and skip Kim Eun-Jung made mistakes, giving chance to the skip of China Wang Bingyu to make a double jam to help the hosts steal one point to claim the victory.
In last month's Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan last month, China brushed aside South Korea 12-5 for the title.
"China occupied good positions in the tenth end, giving us a lot pressure. I was trying to hit a double takeout in my first stone, but failed. And my last stone was lack of strength to clear China's stones,"said Kim Eun-Jung after the match.
China took a 5-3 lead before the break, but South Korea fought back then as they scored one point in each of the sixth and eighth end and stole one more in the seventh to regain a 6-5 advantage.
"we had quite a few mistakes in seven, eight, and nine ends,"said China coach Marcel Rocque. "But the tenth, our skip made a double jam, after that it was a pretty great situation. We are fortunate to win, so sometimes you lose some games which feels like you won, and sometimes you win this game it feels you lost"
Largely aided by a score of five points in the seventh end, Switzerland crashed Russia 12-7 to join Canada, who defeat United States 7-5 in the morning, to be the only teams maintained unbeaten run until now. But one of these two teams should break the record today as the clash between them is scheduled to be played tonight.
