ACCRA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday assured Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from Africa that Ghana is open for business, stressing that the creation of a conducive business environment will ensure that their businesses flourish, thereby creating prosperity for Ghanaians.
Akufo-Addo said this when he held a roundtable meeting with some selected CEOs of leading African and international companies, on the sidelines of the ongoing 5th edition of the Africa CEO Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, the presidency said in a release
He said the revival and modernization of Ghana's agriculture is a major plank of his administration's agenda of creating and providing jobs for the people.
He noted that the agriculture sector is one area government is looking at bringing in investment.
With one percent of the country's revenues dedicated to agriculture in the erstwhile administration of former president Mahama, President Akufo-Addo indicated that his commitment is, at least, to match the 4 percent of revenues allocated to the sector by the last New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by John Agyekum Kufuor.
"If the country is to make any meaningful change in the lives of the people, our efforts must be directed at this sector. The majority of people can only feel a change in their lives when we develop agriculture," he said.
Akufo-Addo also reiterated his government's commitment to reduce the fiscal deficit from 9 percent to 6 percent this year, with further reductions next year.
The Africa CEO Forum has become the foremost international event dedicated to the development of the private sector on the continent. Enditem
