BELGRADE, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The 53rd Belgrade Car Show with 34 automobile brands on display from 30 countries was opened at Belgrade Fair by Serbian Economy Minister Goran Knezevic on Thursday.

The Car Show opened at 10 halls covering more than 41,000 square meters, with 410 exhibitors -- including 34 automobile brands and 10 brands of light transport vehicles, as well as 36 brands of motorcycles.

"We will be able to see models of cars working on alternative fuels and those hat implemented newest technologies," Knezevic said.

"This fair is important for exhibitors and participants as well as for visitors and potential buyers, for the organizers and the city of Belgrade as well as the national economy," he said.

The auto industry in Serbia has a history of 80 years and it is one of the generators of the industrial production and the development of the Serbian economy, Knezevic said.

According to him, total investment of the Serbian auto industry since 2014 amounted to 600 million euros (647 million U.S. dollars).

Auto factories employ 33,000 people in Serbia and produce parts for some of the biggest international manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Opel, Audi, Mercedes and even Lamborghini and Porsche, he said.

From March 24 to April 2, visitors of the fair will see the newest models of cars made by leading manufacturers.

Some of the spotlights of the fair are the new Rolls Royce's "Ghost Black Badge", Mercedes "S-Maibach" and BMW's electric cars "i3" and "i8", as well as premium models of Audi and Jaguar.

Organizers expect around 140,000 visitors for the show.
