Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, March 27

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.08 percent at 3,266.96 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.61 percent lower at 10,581.92 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.9 percent to close at 1,947.53 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved down 3.01 points, or 0.19 percent to close at 1,570.50 points.

Some 6.54 billion shares worth 30.96 billion baht (about 900 million U.S. dollars) changed hands.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 16.02 points, or 0.51 percent, to close at 3,126.88.

A total of 3 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.08 billion Singapore dollars (773.04 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 91.38 points on Monday, up 0.01 points or 0.01 percent against the previous trading session.

Prices of 93 stocks went up; 109 stocks fell down, while 83 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 164.57 points, or 0.68 percent to 24,193.7 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,138.78 and 24,434.9. Turnover totaled 89.02 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 11.46 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 723.52 points on Monday, up 1.38 points, or 0.19 percent, from Friday.

A total of 90.356 million shares worth 1.854 trillion dong (83.34 million dollars) were traded on Monday.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower Monday, with the Nikkei stock index slumping to a six-week low on concerns U.S. President Donald Trump may struggle to realize his economic policies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 276.94 points, or 1.44 percent, from Friday to end the day at 18,985.59, marking its lowest close since Feb. 9.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 13.29 points, or 0.61 percent, to settle at 2,155.66. Trading volume stood at 390.9 million shares worth 5.02 trillion won (4.51 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Monday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 1.9 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 356.47.
