VILNIUS, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Four persons of the same family were shot to death on Monday evening in Gaizenai village in Lithuania's Kaunas region, while the suspect escaped from the crime scene, Lithuanian police announced.
Kaunas is Lithuania's second largest city.
The police was searching after the 27-year-old suspect, relative of the victims' family, local media reported. According to the reports, the attacker might be armed and dangerous, therefore, local residents are being urged to be cautious and call the police in case of any allegations.
A married couple in their 50s, mother of the husband and his brother were the victims, the police said.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect killed his parents and two other members of the family, local media reported.
A 81-year-old grandfather was found injured at the crime scene, he was taken to hospital.
"The suspect is a son of one of the women who have been killed; he worked in a security company," Ramunas Matonis, spokesperson for Lithuanian Police Department, was quoted as saying by local website 15 min.lt.
Around 20 police officers were employed to investigate at the scene in Gaizenai village, Delfi.lt reported.
