MEXICO CITY, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from Tuesday riots in the prison of Cadereyta, in the northern state of Nuevo Leon, has climbed to four and the other 21 were injured, announced the state government on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Nuevo Leon attorney-general said that four bodies were found in two buildings, after 56 prisoners set fire and looted a pharmacy.
On Tuesday evening, around 6:00 p.m., emergency workers managed to enter the prison after the fire, with 21 prisoners being taken to hospital.
An initial count by the state's security spokesperson, Aldo Fasci, had spoken of two dead and 13 injured.
The updated statement said that Rangel Sarabia seemed to have overdosed on substances stolen from the pharmacy while the others burned to death.
It was the second consecutive day of violence for the prison, after around 600 prisoners set fires on Monday due to tougher new security measures being imposed.
