NEW DELHI, March 30 (Xinhua) -- At least eight coaches of a passenger train derailed in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, injuring six passengers, railway officials said.
The train derailed near Mahoba district, about 254 km south of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
"In the wee hours today, eight coaches of a train, Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express, derailed near Jhansi-Mahoba rail section," a railway spokesman said. "Around six passengers were injured in the incident."
Officials said the cause of the train derailment was being ascertained.
Authorities have rushed India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the spot to carry out rescue and relief operation.
Following the accident, over a dozen trains were either diverted or cancelled due to the accident.
Indian railway officials said a probe has been ordered into the accident.
India's sprawling railway is the world's third largest network, ferrying around 23 million people each day.
In 2016, a train accident in Uttar Pradesh killed 145 and injured around 200.
