NEW DELHI, April 29 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and several others suffered burn injures in a fireworks factory explosion in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said Saturday.

The blast went off near Sahibabad in Ghaziabad district about 533 km northwest of Lucknow city, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

"Five people were killed and several others injured yesterday in an explosion inside a fireworks factory here," a local police official said. "The bodies of two workers were disfigured because of the blast."

The injured, according to police, were admitted at a local medical facility.

The cause of the blast and subsequent fire inside the factory was being investigated.

Last week, seven people were killed in a devastating blaze inside a firecracker shop in central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
