ASTANA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Three Kazakhstan weightlifters have been officially banned for doping after their doping tests revealed traces of prohibited drugs in the retests of London Olympics samples, according to the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation.
Maya Maneza and Zulfiya Chinshanlo were suspended for two years, and Svetlana Podobedova received an eight-year ban, according to the decision of the disciplinary commission of the International Weightlifting Federation. The sanction comes into force from the moment of detection of violations, as a result of reanalysis of doping tests of the Olympics in London. That means the ban is retroactive from May 26, 2016, Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation reports.
The athletes are set to defend all of their non-Olympic achievements, titles and awards with the assistance of the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation.
Earlier a group of lawyers and experts in the field of laboratory analyses and sports law, created by an initiative of the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation, studied the results of the reanalyses of Kazakh athletes for several months, and also provided support to athletes at all stages of the investigation and litigation.
Maya Maneza and Svetlana Podobedova were the champions from the Asian Games in 2010 in Guangzhou, and Zulfiya Chinshanlo was the silver medalist.
