Bahrain accuses Iran of terror links

MANAMA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Iran continues to support terror cells in Bahrain and provides them with ammunition and explosives smuggled through borders to cause chaos in the country, said Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan on Thursday.

Al Hassan made the remarks when delivering a speech at a meeting on the threats of Improvised Explosive Devices(IEDs) attend by experts of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

"Bahrain has been suffering terrorism backed by Iran for decades," Al Hassan said, highlighting the involvement of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards in recruiting, financing and training terror cells in Bahrain and providing them with logistic operations.

Meanwhile, Al Hassan said that the security authorities have succeeded in dismantling a number of terrorist cells and foiling terrorist plots of blasts and assassinations.

In Jan. 2016, Bahrain severed diplomatic relations with Iran after Saudi Arabia cut ties with Tehran amid outrage over the Saudi execution of a Shiite cleric.
