JAKARTA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of 600 million U.S. dollars to support Indonesia's food resiliency program, which would be focused on finance enhancement of irrigation system for the farmers.
The fund assistance was expected to help Indonesian government to reduce poverty in rural areas of 74 districts across the country, a statement released by ADB said here on Friday.
"The aim (of the assistance) is to improve the incomes and livelihoods of these rural communities, as well as to help Indonesia achieve a sustainable and more productive irrigated agriculture," ADB Water Resources Specialist Eric Quincieu said in the statement.
The loan is also expected to encourage farmer participation in managing water distribution system in their communities.
The assistance would adopt high-level technologies as well as measures to tackle impacts of climate change so to improve irrigation service.
