ACCRA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Friday issued an alert on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), calling on regional directors to enhance their preparedness.

The alert comes after the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) reported an outbreak of the disease in the northeast of that country.

A statement issued by Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Director General of the GHS, asked the directors to strengthen their surveillance for early detection and response, update preparedness and response plans in districts and regions and ensure the availability of holding places.

The statement also charged them to conduct targeted public education without causing fear and panic.

Ebola, which is fatal and kills infected persons in a matter of days, is spread through bodily fluids. Enditem
