HAVANA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's Communist Party (PCC) has approved a set of guidelines vital to the future political and economic development in the country, state daily Granma said on Friday.

The adoption of the guidelines, set out in three different documents, follows more than a year of grassroots consultations in which 1.6 million citizens took part.

"These are the most studied, discussed and rediscussed documents in the history of the (Cuban) revolution," President Raul Castro said, referring to the three documents on national economic and social development.

The PCC's central committee analyzed "thousands of proposals from the nationwide consultations and the opinions of lawmakers," the government said.

The PCC also approved modifications to guidelines to modernize the island's economic and social policies, which were first implemented in 2010.

The modified guidelines are related to the role of direct foreign investment, the introduction of advanced technologies and know-how, and the improvement of local government bodies.
