LUSAKA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government on Friday sent a message of condolences to Zimbabwe following a bus accident which claimed over 40 lives.
Zimbabwe police said the bus, which was traveling to Zambia, crashed on Wednesday night, killing 43 people on the spot while another two died of their injuries on Thursday.
The accident happened after the driver failed to negotiate a curve.
Chief Government Spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga said the Zambian government learnt with shock and horror the demise of the passengers who were traveling to Lusaka, the Zambian capital.
"We would like to express our sincere sympathies with families of the victims. Our prayers and thoughts are with them in this difficult period," she said in a statement.
She however could not confirm whether they were Zambian passengers in the bus.
Many Zimbabweans travel to Zambia by bus daily for business.
