BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 7,097 vehicles have been impounded for using fake license plates in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Ministry of Public Security said Friday.
Since March, police departments in the region have detained 559 people as part of an ongoing campaign targeting fake license plates.
Law enforcement departments across the region have worked together to employ a high technology track and detect system.
They set up a database of vehicles with suspected fake plates and used it to check vehicles entering Beijing.
Police also uncovered operations manufacturing fake plates, and punished offenders.
