BUCHAREST, June 29 (Xinhua) -- One soldier was confirmed dead after a military truck with at least 13 soldiers fell into a chasm late Thursday in southern Romanian county of Arges.
Two others are still imprisoned in the cab, according to Health Minister Florian Bodog. Local media cited rescue personnel saying that the two are very unlikely to survive.
The truck overturned in a 40-meter deep chasm after rushing off the road near Dambovicioara, a hardly accessible mountain area some 160 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Bucharest.
10 soldiers were taken out of the truck and rushed to the nearby hospitals, Madalina Epure, spokeswoman of the local Emergency Situations Inspectorate in Arges, said earlier.
The truck, the last one in a column of four military vehicles, is on its way back from a military exercise.
