HANOI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Six Vietnamese athletes, including siblings, will vie for medals at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championship slated for July 6-9 in India, the Vietnam General Department of Sports and Physical Training said on Monday.

Quach Thi Lan, national champion in the women's 400m and 400m hurdle events, and her elder brother Quach Cong Lich, national champion in the 400m and 400m hurdles, are expected to win medals.

Besides Lan, who bagged home one gold and two silvers at the Asian Grand Prix in April, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Southeast Asian Games champion and record holder, will compete in the women's 400m and 400m hurdle events.

Lan, Huyen and two other Vietnamese women will vie for medals of the 4x400m relay. Meanwhile, Asian Games silver medalist Bui Thi Thu Thao will compete in the long jump.

All the six athletes will also attend the approaching Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in August in Malaysia.

The previous Asian Athletics Championship took place in China in June, which coincided with the 2015 SEA Games, thus Vietnam did not send the best athletes, but young ones, to the Asian championship. All five Vietnamese athletes returned home empty-handed.
