MOGADISHU, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) confirmed Friday that two Somalia National Army (SNA) soldiers were killed and another injured in a road accident involving an AU armored vehicle on Thursday.
In a statement issued in Mogadishu, the AU mission regretted the incident that took place between Elashabiyaha and Lafole about 20 km west of Somali's capital Mogadishu.
AMISOM said it had launched immediate investigations into the incident, which had sparked protests from the locals.
"AMISOM offered their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and has instituted an immediate enquiry to establish the full facts of the incident," it said.
Since 2007, AU peacekeepers have been trying to stabilize a country that has had no effective functioning central government for the past 20 years, during which it has been torn apart by factional fighting and has faced a series of humanitarian crises.
