BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will pay a state visit to China from July 17 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang gave the details of the Palestinian president's upcoming visit at a daily news conference.

Geng said it will be Abbas' fourth visit to China, during which he will meet and talk with President Xi, Premier Li Keqiang, and top legislator Zhang Dejiang.

The two sides will exchange views on bilateral ties, Palestinian issues and questions of common concern, Geng said.

He said China and Palestine have maintained friendly ties for a long time, and China was one of the first countries to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the country.

"In recent years, the two countries have continued frequent high-level exchanges with steady development in cooperation of various fields and closer people-to-people communications," Geng said.

China stands ready to work with Palestine to further enhance the traditional friendship and promote the amicable cooperation to a new high, he said.

China supports the just cause of Palestinians who struggle to restore their legal rights, Geng said, adding that China is willing to play a constructive role in promoting the peace process between Palestine and Israel.
