Youth film festival kicks off in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The ninth Youth Film Festival Sarajevo (YFF) opened here in Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) capital on Wednesday night with a projection of the film "19 Days."

Over the next five days, the festival will present nearly 40 films from 11 European countries, of which 10 are premiers and 26 are productions of young film authors.

"The festival's focus is on the promotion of young authors and short-term student, professional or amateur filmmaking," host and director of the festival Kenan Music said.

The festival will feature two panel programs, six slots of competition films and the festival premiere of "Biser Bojane." Among the other films that will be shown at the open-air cinema will be "Despicable Me 3," "Richard Roda" and "Die Welle."

At the closing ceremony, awards for best feature short film, best documentary film, best male and female role and best long feature film will be awarded.

The Youth Film Festival Sarajevo, launched in 2008, has become a leading cultural event for youth in BiH and some thousand people are expected to see the festival, according to organizers.
