MOGADISHU, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday donated medical facilities and equipment to Banaadir hospital built by the Chinese in the 1970s in Mogadishu, the Somali capital.
China's Ambassador to Somalia Qin Jian said China was keen on continuing Somalia's recovery process and supporting it in various sectors including the medical sector.
The ambassador hailed Banaadir hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in the capital, for what he termed as their remarkable contribution in providing health services to over millions of Somalis over the years.
"This hospital serves over three million people in Mogadishu and surrounding areas," Qin said, adding it has made a huge contribution for the country's peace and reconstruction.
Recalling China's efforts in constructing the hospital in 1970s, Qin said his country has remained committed to supporting Somalia and has sent several teams of medical staff to the country for several years.

From 1960 to 1995, Chinese government sent 14 batches of medical team with more than 400 members of medical staff to heal southern Somalia people," the ambassador said.
Qin said Somalia and China have enjoyed cordial diplomatic relations for many years and have a lot to share in common.
"As you know China and Somalia enjoy long friendship. Since 1960 when diplomatic relations was established between our two countries we have made great progress and achievements in the area of politics, health, economy and all the fields," he said.
Qin also noted his visit to the hospital would help him get first hand information so that he can provide further support.
"I have come here to Banadir hospital to get first hand information and the materials and then the Chinese side will consider helping Somalia to repair this hospital because this hospital is very important for Somalia people," he said.
Banaadir hospital director Abdirizak Hasan Ali thanked the ambassador and the people of China, noting their sacrifice in constructing and supporting Banaadir hospital has made significant contribution to health sector in Somalia.
