BERLIN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The world economy is predicted to dampen slightly in the third quarter of the year, German research institute Ifo said Thursday.

"Experts assessed the current economic situation far more positively than in April, but were slightly less optimistic about the months ahead," Ifo President Clemens Fuest said in a statement.

According to the statistics released by Ifo, the barometer index for the Ifo World Economic Climate decreased by 0.3 point from the second quarter to 12.7 points in the third quarter.

The economic climate primarily improved in the euro zone, the Munich-based think tank said.

Ifo economists said that emerging and developing economies had a dampening effect.

"The world economy is expected to continue to recover at a slightly slower pace in the second half of 2017," Fuest added.

Ifo's survey was based on responses from 1,123 experts in 121 countries and regions.
