TIRANA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Albania's state police said Thursday that it had launched additional measures to boost public security as well as to fight organized crime, serious crimes and illegal border passing.

According to a statement from state police, the decision to enhance security level was taken following the terrorist attacks in some European cities and threats for other attacks to be undertaken by Islamic State (IS).

Therefore, police informed that there would be an increased presence of police officers and agents in the terrain while the control measures during massive organizations such as cultural or sport events would be stricter.

An increased presence of police officers will be also seen in the commercial centers, objects with strategic importance, embassies, etc., as state police said.

"A higher number of police officers will be deployed to the border crossing points in order to carry out more detailed controls in cases when the border officers raise suspicions on certain persons, vehicles or objects," police said.

On the other hand, Albania's state police said the anti-terror structures were intensively working in the terrain to keep under constant monitoring the persons with radical views or their connections.

According to police, these structures had also intensified their cooperation with the Albanian prosecution office and the state intelligence department as well as partner institutions in other countries in order to share information and manage to prevent, uncover and detain any suspect intending to undertake a terrorist attack.

Albanian state police sought the understanding of citizens for such additional security measures put in place while it called on them to denounce any suspicious case, assuring them of confidentiality and professional reaction.
