TBILISI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Armed Forces have joined firefighting efforts in central Georgia's Borjomi Gorge where a massive forest fire broke out six days ago and is still burning, the Prime Ministry said on Friday.

Currently, more than 1,000 soldiers from the Eastern Command of the Georgian Armed Forces are joining more than 1,500 firefighters, rescuers and rangers to battle the fire, said the ministry in a statement.

The involvement of the army was authorized by a decree issued by President Giorgi Margvelashvili upon the request of Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

The prime minister said the fire has been stopped from spreading and the next step is to put out the fire.
