JAKARTA, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The government of Indonesia had projected digital industry will expand rapidly in 2019, which will provide thousands of jobs.
Indonesian Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto said on Monday that the digital industry or e-commerce industry is estimated to grow by 10 times in 2019 from 1 percent to 2 percent expansion target of this year.
A total of 1.2 to 1.3 million of small and medium businesses has been created by the industry at present, he said.
"Mall shopping centers can not create such figure," Airlangga said.
The minister cited that over new 200,000 entrepreneurs can be created by the digital industry by 2019.
The minister cited that digital industry has been one of the main contributors of community-base economy in the archipelagic nation.
The government has supported development of digital industry in the country, by providing supportive regulations.
Small and medium scale businesses have significantly contributed to the expansion of the Southeast Asia's largest economy.
