JAKARTA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will hold the Sail Sabang marine event from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5, which is expected to attract foreign visitors from neighboring countries.
"This event would be very good to develop Sabang as a marine destination as it has beautiful sea, beaches and undersea scenery," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said on Tuesday to welcome the event, referring to the city of Indonesia's westernmost tip island of Weh in Aceh province.
The marine event will feature various sessions held in Sabang Bay, Gapang Resort on the island.
President Joko Widodo is scheduled to attend a session in Sabang Bay with thousands of visitors expected to attend throughout the event, the minister said.
The regional government has made preparations for the event by expanding sea and air transport to the island.
Speedboats would serve visitors during the event as they would ply route from Weh island to Aceh coast three times per day. Large ferry would also be provided to transport logistics to the island.
Direct flights from Sabang to Malaysia's marine destination of Langkawi has been launched this month to transport foreign visitors from the neighboring country.
