TIRANA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) --The Albanian government decided to merge some ministries and about 500 state agencies and inspectorates, aimed at enhancing efficiency. It is expected to bring about thousands of job cuts in public administration, economy experts here said Wednesday.
Such concern raised by experts is based on a preliminary document of the new government related to the merging of several ministries and institutions.
According to the document, nearly 5,000 jobs may be cut in the public administration. The reduction will apparently be more drastic in the newly created departments
It is still unclear what will happen with 3,042 jobs in the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth as this ministry will no longer exist.
The same thing can be said about the staff of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, which will function as a special department within the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure or the ones currently working in the Ministry of Integration which will became a directorate under the Foreign Ministry.
Huge cuts are also expected in tax and customs directorates as they will merge into one.
