Team bus destroyed in arson attack during Vuelta de Espana

MADRID, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The team bus belonging to the Aqua Blue Sport cycling team that is currently competing in the Vuelta de Espana (Tour of Spain) cycle race was destroyed in a suspected arson attack on Thursday morning.

The attack happened in the city of Almeria in the south of Spain after a mattress was set alight and placed into the bus of the Irish based squad.

"Our team bus has been completely damaged in a cowardly arson attack overnight. No one was injured. Police have arrested a suspect," confirmed the team on their 'Twitter' account.

The Spanish police later confirmed that a 55-year-old man with record of previously having started four fires in the area had been arrested.

Meanwhile the Aqua Blue Sport team have confirmed they will continue in the three-week long race and were on the start line for Thursday's stage 12, which began in the town of Motril.

Sky's Chris Froome currently leads the race which finishes in Madrid on September 10th. Enditem
