HARARE, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Road traffic accidents claimed at least 930 human lives between January and July 2017 in Zimbabwe, with the biggest disasters relating to two bus accidents which killed a total of 74 people in April and June.
At least 4,222 people were also injured in road traffic related accidents during the same period.
Figures released by the managing director of the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe Obio Chinyere showed that there were 22,259 road traffic accidents recorded between January and July, down from the 22,591 recorded during the same period in 2016.
However, the number of fatalities had increased from the 806 recorded in 2016, The Herald reported Wednesday.
Chinyere said 94 percent of the accidents that happened during the period were due to human error.
"It is disheartening to continue losing lives on the roads due to human error. An average of five people die in road traffic accidents every day and of these, 94 percent are a result of human error," he said. Enditem
