China's consumer inflation up 1.8 pct in August

BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 1.8 percent year on year in August, the National Bureau of Statistics said Saturday.

The pace of CPI growth accelerated from July's 1.4 percent. On a monthly basis, the index was up 0.4 percent, according to the bureau.
