CHICAGO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed by guns and 33 others were shot across the third largest U.S. city Chicago from Friday afternoon to early Monday, according to the data collected by the Chicago Tribune.
The data shows more than half the weekend's shootings took place over 22 hours from Saturday morning to early Sunday. The violence included a shooting in the city's southern area that killed two women and a man.
So far this year, Chicago has reported 485 homicides, slightly down from the record 527 homicides registered by the same time last year, according to the data.
Meanwhile, the number of shooting victims reported by Sunday this year stands at 2,651 people, down 12.25 percent from the 3,021 people reported the same period last year.
Chicago has the highest murder toll in the cities of the United States over the past two decades.
