LUSAKA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in Zambia on Thursday said more teachers with forged academic qualifications had been discovered.
Stanley Mhango, the chairperson of the Teaching Council of Zambia, a government body that regulates the teaching profession, said the number has risen to 563 as the scrutiny of the papers presented by the teachers continues.
Early this month, the council discovered that 498 teachers did not have proper academic qualifications.
The teachers were discovered following a registration exercise being conducted, a new requirement introduced by the government to bring sanity in the education sector.
He told reporters that the disciplinary action will be taken against all the culprits as the behavior of the teachers caught will not be left unpunished.
