ABUJA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Three police personnel abducted by gunmen in Nigeria have been rescued and are in stable condition, a senior police officer confirmed on Saturday.
The three police personnel were abducted on Sept. 4 in the northwestern state of Zamfara when unidentified gunmen stormed a police outpost in a village in Tsafe area of the state.
Zamfara State police chief Shaba Alkali said one of the security agents was wounded as a result of a gunshot by their abductors.
According to Alkali, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were working to apprehend the abductors.
Abduction is common in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country. Most foreigners and citizens seized by gunmen in the country were usually released unharmed after paying a ransom.
