HANOI, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Doksuri has killed nine people and left four others missing since it hit Vietnam's central region on Friday, the country's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said on Sunday evening.

The nine victims included three from northern Hoa Binh province, two from central Thanh Hoa and Quang Binh provinces each, and one from central Nghe An and Thua Thien Hue provinces each. All the four people listed as missing are from Quang Binh.

Doksuri also injured 112 people, including 89 from Quang Binh and 10 from central Quang Tri province.

The typhoon also destroyed 1,185 houses, including 1,065 in Quang Binh, damaged 152,599 houses, broke 1,559 electric poles, sank seven fishing ships and 183 small fishing boats, damaged 29 sea dyke sections and many roads, and inundated nearly 4,500 hectares of rice and roughly 8,300 hectares of other crops.

Natural disasters, mainly tropical storms and landslides, killed or left 116 people missing and caused property losses of 250 million U.S. dollars in Vietnam in the first eight months of this year, said the country's General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control.
