Morocco to host 7th Digital Earth Summit to discuss earth observation

RABAT, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The seventh Digital Earth Summit will be held in the Moroccan city of El Jadida on April 17-19 next year, to discuss latest achievements in earth observation and to exchange expertise.

Digital Earth is a global initiative seeking to construct a comprehensive virtual representation of the planet.

The seventh event, which will focus on digital earth for sustainable development in Africa, is organized by the International Society for Digital Earth and the Moroccan Chouaib Douakkali University in partnership with the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment and the Moroccan Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment, the Moroccan university said in a statement.

The event will bring together scientists and professionals around the world to examine various aspects of geospatial data, earth sciences, space sciences and information sciences and technology for monitoring and forecasting natural and human phenomena, the statement pointed out.

The conference program features keynote speeches by leading scholars and technical sessions with reports of the latest research outcomes in the field.

It will also discuss best practices and applications for earth observation as well as latest digital earth technologies to achieve sustainable development.

Participants will review several other issues related to the role of digital earth technology in combating famine, geo-ethics and the importance of earth observation and geo-information sciences.
