HANOI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 111 Vietnamese people and foreigners have participated in the Paragliding Festival 2017 which kicked off on Saturday in Vietnam's northern Yen Bai province.

At the two-day festival on Khau Pha Pass in Mu Cang Chai district, paragliding pilots have not focused on competing with one another, but on disguising themselves as characters in famous films or novels, including Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie in "Journey to the West," one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature.

Khau Pha, one of Vietnam's longest passes, and over 1,200 meters above the sea level, is considered by many Vietnamese and foreign pilots one of the most beautiful paragliding sites in the world, Yen Bai authorities said.

On Saturday evening, the opening ceremony of Muong Lo Culture and Tourism Week and Mu Cang Chai Terraced Fields Festival, the two events designated to promote the province's tourism, were held with the participation of hundreds of local artists and thousands of visitors.
