Heavy rain hits 24 provinces in Tunisia

TUNIS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rainfall has swept across the 24 provinces of Tunisia, particularly in the north, northwest and the Grand Tunis area since the beginning of this week, as expected by the National Institute of Meteorology.

Rainstorm has generated violent water currents and even floods in the provinces of the Grand Tunis region including Ariana, Manouba, Ben Arous as well as Tunis city, causing traffic disruption in several areas.

"Starting this afternoon, the weather situation will be favorable to storm which would intensify all day Monday," alerted the National Institute of Meteorology of Tunisia.

The northeastern province of Zaghouan recorded the heaviest rainfall, with 69 mm in the municipality of Bir Mechargua.

The National Institute of Meteorology of Tunisia estimated the rainfalls would range from 1 to 27 mm in the northeastern province of Nabeul, 4 to 29 mm in the central province of Kairouan, 2 to 15 mm in Sidi Bouzid in the central area and 1 to 13 mm in Kasserine in the midwest. Enditem
