6.3-magnitude quake hits Balleny Islands region -- USGS

NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Balleny Islands region at 20:48:58 GMT on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 61.7431 degrees south latitude and 154.5526 degrees east longitude.
