BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China supports Myanmar's efforts in maintaining peace and stability in Rakhine state, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Wednesday.

"We hope that Myanmar can maintain social stability, ethnic solidarity and economic development," spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a daily news briefing.

The Chinese side has noted that the Myanmar's government has taken a series of measures to maintain peace and stability in Rakhine state, Hua said.

"We hope that order will prevail again as soon as possible so that no more harm will come to innocent civilians," the spokesperson said.

The issues in Rakhine state are rooted in a nexus of complex historical, ethnic and religious factors, and China hopes the international community will treat the issue fairly and objectively, Hua said.

China encourages Myanmar and Bangladesh to seek fundamental solutions through friendly consultation, Hua said, adding that the measures from the United Nations and other organizations should be helpful to solve the issue.
