KIEV, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian cabinet on Wednesday allocated 3.8 million U.S. dollars to enhance the safety of the country's military depots in the wake of explosions at three Ukrainian army warehouses earlier this year.

The proposition to earmark the funds, which was put forward by Ukrainian Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak, was unanimously approved by the cabinet members, according to the government's website. ' While speaking during the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said the heightened safety measures should be introduced at the military depots "as soon as possible".

On Sept. 26, blasts ripped through an arms storage facility near the town of Kalynivka, some 250 km southwest of capital Kiev, forcing the evacuation of 30,000 people and damaging 34,000 tons of ammunition.

The explosions were a third similar incident in Ukraine this year. The other two blasts happened in March and earlier in September, also in ammunition depots in the Donetsk and Kharkov regions.

According to a preliminary investigation, the acts of sabotage were likely behind all three incidents. A further investigation is underway.
