HONG KONG, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will hold the 10th International Wine and Spirits Fair from Nov. 9 to 11, featuring a record of 1,070 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions, it said here Tuesday.

Benjamin Chau, the HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, told a press meeting that Hong Kong has developed into the region's wine trading and distribution center, and serves as a gateway for wines entering the Chinese mainland.

According to the data from the HKTDC, wine imports jumped from 1.6 billion HK dollars (about 206 million U.S. dollars) in 2007 to 12 billion HK dollars (1.54 billion U.S. dollars) in 2016, up more than 7 times.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event, the HKTDC has teamed up with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Hotel and Tourism Management to co-organize the Asia Wine Academy, providing knowledge on wine consumption and tasting to the public.

In addition, the HKTDC will organize more than 70 activities during the fair, including a dozen tasting sessions, industry-exchange events and Hong Kong Wine Competition.
