SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- An Indian border guard belonging to Border Security Force was killed Thursday during skirmishes between troops of India and Pakistan on International Border (IB) in Kashmir, police said.

The exchange of small arms and artillery was reported near Mangu Chack border outpost along IB in Samba sector, about 53 km south of Jammu city, the winter capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Both New Delhi and Islamabad accuse each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating cease-fire agreements. And both sides maintain that their troops gave befitting reply.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
