Nepal supports Spanish unity amid Catalan independence declaration

KATHMANDU, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Nepal on Monday voiced support for the Spanish government's effort to maintain national unity after the Catalan parliament declared independence late last month.

In a press statement, the Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Nepal unequivocally respects and supports the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of Spain and firmly opposes any attempt to the secession of the country.

"Nepal is of the view that domestic issues must be settled within the constitutional framework of the country," the statement said.

Nepal and Spain enjoy cordial and friendly bilateral relations based on friendship, cooperation, mutual understanding and respect for each other's aspirations, the ministry said.
