CARACAS, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least 50 executives from Venezuela's national oil company PDVSA have been arrested for alleged corruption, Attorney-general Tarek William Saab said on Monday.

Speaking to a summit of Ibero-American attorneys-general in Buenos Aires, Saab said: "We inform this meeting of the arrest, at this time, of approximately 50 executives of PDVSA, six of whom are senior managers."

Saab said that the corruption activities were registered within former Venezuelan currency exchange mechanisms.

Saab was appointed as attorney-general on Aug. 5 and vowed that "we will play an important role in bringing ideas to this network of Ibero-American attorneys-general in the fight against corruption."
