ABUJA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Two suicide blasts in a market in Nigeria's northeastern town of Biu on Saturday killed 13 and wounded 53 others, local police said.

Two female suicide bombers wreaked the havoc at the busy Biu Market in the northern state of Borno, according to Victor Isuku, a spokesman for the police, who confirmed the incident.

Isuku said the first blast was heard at about mid-day inside the market, while the second blast occurred a few minutes later outside the market.

The police said it suspected the terror group Boko Haram for carrying out the attack. The terror group has killed over 20,000 people in the country since 2009.
