OTTAWA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- A Canadian model tried to get her eyeball tattooed several months ago and now is at risk of losing her eye entirely.

Catt Gallinger, a Canadian model who was also a fan of extreme body modification, agreed to a procedure called sclera staining, which is to stain one's eyeball by injecting ink into the white part of the eye.

Eyeball tattooing has become popular among people who are keen on self-alterations in unusual ways. Considering this could bring her a startling visual effect, Gallinger chose her favorite color purple as the ink color for her eye.

But she said purple ink oozed out of her eye and trickled down her cheek during the procedure, which resulted in serious eye-swelling and eventually the eye became severely infected. She was told by her doctor that the affected eye was at risk of becoming permanently blind.

Gallinger accused the person who had tattooed her eyeball of misstating qualifications and training, saying he made many errors and she planned to take legal action.

Gallinger had been prescribed a slew of antibiotic and steroidal eye drops to reduce inflammation. But her vision in that eye still remained blurred and showed no signs of improving, she said on Facebook.

The model now has continued posting regular updates about her eye condition on Facebook so as to warn people not to make the same mistake that she did.

"Just please be cautious who you get your mods (body modification procedures) from and do your research," Gallinger wrote. "I don't want this to happen to anyone else."
